Today the world celebrates International Woman’s Day. For most Ukrainian women, today has been one of the hardest days of their life.
Today, it is snowing at the Ukraine/ Moldova border. Imagine having lost everything you have. You’ve walked for what seems forever. Stood in endless lines, just to save your life and the lives of your kids. The barren new land that the last bus or last walk has landed you in is full of people who are living the same nightmare as you. Hungry, you look through the snow that has started to fall to see if there is something, anything to eat for you and your kids. You seem to be at the brink of losing hope. Today, when we celebrate women all around the world, you feel defeated and want to give up!
But wait…
You see some young folk standing in a tent, they are as cold as you, but they are smiling, friendly, different from everything you’ve experienced for the last few days of terror and devastation. They have hot tea and coffee, fruit, sandwiches, and a little bit of humanity in a barbaric world created by the brutal Vladimir Putin.
They know where to point you to go next, they have a team member Vlad who will go through the bus handing out care packs just before you leave..holding a hot cup of tea, you walk away to your new life….today more than any day we CELEBRATE these amazing, resilient Ukrainian women! We are standing here with you in this war, we will be there as long as you need us!
Happy International Woman’s Day to every hard working strong women, amazing mothers, and grandmothers around the world! We CELEBRATE YOU!
